Genital herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus or HSV. There are two types of HSV, and both can cause genital herpes. It is a very common condition & very effective treatment is available.

Most people get genital herpes by having sex with someone who is having "herpes outbreak". Genital herpes can be transmitted:

1. Through direct contact with an infected blister or sore;
2. Sexual Contacts - Oral, Vaginal or Anal intercourse;
3. Also, genital herpes can be transmitted when there are no symptoms present.

Symptoms of Genital Herpes

  • Itching, tingling or burning feeling in the genital or anal area
  • Muscle aches or pains near to the area
  • Pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area
  • Discharge of fluid from the vagina or penile discharge
  • Feeling of pressure in the abdomen
  • Blisters, cuts, sores, bumps or a rash in the infected area
  • Headache, fever and swollen glands
  • Pain when urinating

Usually, genital herpes infections do not cause major problems in healthy adults. In some people whose immune systems do not work properly, genital herpes episodes can last a long time. If you have genital herpes, you must remmember that you are not alone. You should talk about how you feel. There is alot of support groups, online discussions and chat groups if you need to talk privately.Also, if you suspect that you have herpes and have not had your condition diagnosed you must visit your doctor for professional analysis. Genital Herpes can be mistaken for many different conditions and should always be diagnosed professionally.
